SLOW-BIRDING: BIRD & BIODIVERSITY WALK & ACCESSIBILITY AMBLE—KINGS PARK HIKE & BIKE TRAIL

Description: SLOW-BIRDING: BIRD & BIODIVERSITY WALK & ACCESSIBILITY AMBLE - KINGS PARK HIKE & BIKE TRAIL

Join Joy Cirigliano as she looks for birds and furry critters in addition to plants, insects, and whatever else catches her attention as we amble the Kings Park Hike and Bike Trail from the trailhead into the south end of Nissequogue River State Park. We will see a mixture of life zones, from Fields to Scrubland, with small patches of wooded areas.  The tour will be on and near the hike and bike trail, which is a wide strip of asphalt with little to no grade, on the south end of the park.  It is suitable for wheelchairs, powerchairs and walkers.  We will be moving slowly, identifying both animals and plants, and watching for behavior.  Joy plans on bringing her foldable camp chair and the 4HAS Birding Backpack, plus “bug jars”, a butterfly net to catch insects, hand lenses and a couple of other observation tools.  All ages and abilities welcome, including families and seniors interested in learning more about the natural world.

Meet in the Kings Park North Municipal lot across from the Kings Park Fire House on the east side of the lot by the trailhead – next to Gaio’s Garage.   Call Joy @ (631)766-3075 for reservations or more information.
