Native Habitat Garden Outreach/Education and Volunteer Day

Where: Sunken Meadow State Park (map)

Description: Please contact Joy Cirigliano to make reservations for this event at (631)766-3075.

Top of Sunken Meadow Parkway, Kings Park. Meet above Field One between the parking lot and the Park Office - in front of the main Bathhouse by the accessibility ramp.

Please join 4HAS and Nature Initiative at the Bird and Butterfly Garden located in Sunken Meadow, just in front of the main Bathhouse and Park office. Mention volunteering with 4HAS and Nature Initiative to booth attendant to waive parking fee. We will be learning about native plants and non-native plants. Some are attractive and very useful for our local ecosystem, some are not useful, and some are downright invasive. We will be working in the gardens, splitting native perennials, removing weeds and planting new native plugs to re-vamp the garden. We will do some plant id, and also learn about how to help our local pollinators and other insects and wildlife, plus find out what we can do on our own properties to help our winged, four-legged and multi-legged neighbors. Please bring gloves, cultivator or other gardening tools and a few empty flowerpots, for native plants giveaways!
