Description:
Identifying Winter Waterfowl Presented by Mike Cooper
Please join Mike Cooper and Four Harbors Audubon for a Zoom webinar, the third in a series of identification workshops, “ Identifying Winter Waterfowl”. We will learn some tips and techniques for observing and identifying local waterfowl: seabirds and puddle ducks, covering common species as well as some confusing waterfowl like the Greater and Lesser Scaup. If time allows we will touch on other water birds such as murres, loons, grebes, and cormorants.
You will test your newly acquired waterfowl identification skills at two follow-up field trips:
Saturday, February 6, 2021, 9 am, Shinnecock Inlet, Ponquogue Bridge, and Dune Road
Sunday, February 14, 2021, 9 am Mill Pond in Centerport and Tung Ting Pond for puddle ducks.
Mike has been involved with Great South Bay Audubon Society since 1970,and has been actively birding the local scene for about 50 years. He enjoys an identification challenge, whether it be waterfowl, gulls, shorebirds, or other avian species!
Field trips: a scope is helpful to view distant birds; if you have one, please bring it. Please dress appropriately for the weather, bring hand warmers, water, and snack.
