Description: BIRDABILITY! Accessibility Amble
Join 4HAS on an easy amble along the paved asphalt King Park Hike and Bike Trail to look for late fall migrants and winter field, forest, and edge birds. The trail is wide and easily negotiated and there is a mix of field, forest and edge habitat with a respectable diversity of bird species. We have seen Brown Thrashers, Vireos, Cardinals, Nuthatches, numerous sparrow species, assorted warblers, Turkey Vultures, various hawk species and many other bird species along this trail. We will be following the path through a wide diversity of habitat until we get behind and just beyond the iconic Building 93 in what is now considered the south end of Nissequogue River State Park aka the retired Kings Park Psych Center. After this point, the grade steepens. Based on group consensus, we will either strike out through the path and/or parking lots and forest edge to the side-walks on Kings Park Blvd and from there back onto the trail, or we will return backup the trail itself to our origination point. This walk is excellent for all age ranges and skill levels, but is especially suited for those who may have mobility issues and/or visual impairment.
Meet in the overflow municipal parking lot on the north side of 25A, across from Kings Park Fire Department – the trailhead is between the municipal lot and Gaio's Garage.
